Neches Bluff Meet - Feb 2-4, 2018

Postby BigJesse » Mon Jan 08, 2018 10:47 pm

There are no facilities or potable water here. But it is car camping, you can pull right up to the campground. Bring your own food and water.
This is a rain or shine event. Barring them closing the National Forest for some reason saustin1967 and I will be there.

  • When?: Friday Feb 2nd - Sunday Feb 4th (many of us will be there early, some Wed and some Thur.)
  • Where?: Neches Bluff Campground aka "Camp Curmudgeon". On Hwy 21 between Crockett and Alto in the Davy Crockett National Forest. State HWY 21>>Forest Service RD 511>>Forest Service Road 511A>>1 mile down on the left. Google Maps link: https://goo.gl/maps/tpsR9J4gx4y
  • Why?: Just to hang out and scout possible locations for a two night bushcraft hike-in to Big Slough Wildlife Management Area. As well as a few day hikes. Saustin1967 can set up a small navigation course if anyone is interested as well.

There won't be any major hiking this time.

Please, if you are planning on attending state so below so we can have a rough estimate of how many to expect.

Sounds great guys, I will try to be there Saturday and Sunday. I will have two 5 gallon water jugs to help with the lack of water. If anyone needs me to bring anything else, just let me know!

Thanks for organizing this Saustin and Jesse.

My hike-in time has been canceled, so I'll try my hardest to be there Friday afternoon, if I can arrive before dark.

Will do a little Map/Navigation refresher.
Set up a 100 meter course so you can get your pace count if you don't already know it.
If you have a compass bring it.
