Honey Locust thorn fishing hook

Postby Ardentexplorer » Fri Sep 02, 2016 10:08 pm

So I read somewhere that early natives would use the those wicked thorns on honey locust trees as fishing hooks.
I'd like to try it out one of these weekends.
Anyone have any experience with this?

I saw something on YT once and decided to give it a whirl. I made a few different types like the gorge hook, a regular hook out of both thorns and hardwood, and a treble hook from thorns. I may just bring 'em along and actually try them out this weekend. Don't think you'll ever catch bass or catfish due to size and strength, but they should work just fine on smaller fish like Perch, Bream or Goggleye.

This was my very first attempt at any type of fishing hook when I first started practicing. Not very practical, far too bulky and big, but a good try nonetheless.

Wow guys that's pretty awesome. I may try making a hook sometime and testing it out. How awesome would it be to catch something using this?

Very cool. I've seen pointman and they seem to hold up really good. Wouldn't be scared to throw them in the water. Great job fellas!
