New to the forum from Houston!

Postby BushcraftLordMack » Sun Sep 10, 2017 8:26 pm

Hi Eric here, i'm 22 and live in Houston, Texas and i'm new to the forum and semi-new to bushcraft. I have a lot of research and ideas under my belt but not much field practice.

I'm mostly posting to see who else is around here and what your favorite places for primitive or at least semi primitive camping are around here?

Ive heard Sam Houston National Forest but do you still drive in and buy a ticket to camp and then go to a site, or is it just park and walk in or what?

Either way, been viewing the forum for a little while now, finally registered.
Glad to be here, hopefully I can make it to some of the meet ups!

Welcome aboard.

There are some designated camping areas in Sam Houston.
They range from full facilities to Primitive.

We usually have a spring get together in Sam Houston at the Equestrian camping area, it is primitive.
There are also miles of hiking trails, and dispersed camping is allowed any where, as long as you are 200" off the main trail.

You are also not far from a couple of other National forest.
Davy Crockett NF is about an hour away, and Angelina NF is not much further than that.

We camp in both through out the year.

Big Texas Get Together coming in Dec out in San Saba, not sure how many spaces are left, but if you can swing it, it is a gathering of epic proportions.
