I'm going to attempt to keep an open mind. Of the girls want what the BSA has to offer (camping, wilderness & survival skills, and the Eagle Scout program etc,) then why not allow them to take part.
If they are seeing numbers of boys and girls, then maybe it is time for a change (the article does not address numbers)

Yes I agree that there will need to be some separation of boys and girls, but lets face it, even the military has embraced the inclusion of women. I always saw BSA as a primer for military service.

I'm just saying, you would not have been able to keep us apart.
Hell, they could not stop us from smoking and drinking.

We were not your typical Boy Scouts.

And yes, we have Women in the military.
Your Navy, what happens on a ship, despite regs, between males and females?

I think they are watering down the Boy Scout program once again. They don't even do tapouts for OA any more, they just call out the candidates name and why should a young child have to endure an ordeal of invitation it's so demeaning. I think the GSA could probably get some membership back if they would toughen up and put outing back in scouting. I'm just bitter because I didn't make Eagle because I failed my Snowflake Merit Badge.

Julie ran the local girl scouts for two years. Getting past all the training, rules, and requirements to go camping was impossible to do in two years. You had to have so many adult females, with so much training, and all volunteers, trained on the GS schedule. It was ridiculous really. The GS focus was too heavy on the cookie sales and civics lesson books, with no focus on getting out doors like the originators wanted. All the local girls wanted to learn camping, outdoors skills, etc, but they couldn't because of worries about boo boos and fire and in-appropriate touching.

Yes some do pop pregnant in the middle of the Indian Ocean, but if the PTB are smart about it, that problem can be put to bed by separate outings.

My last Scoutmaster was more interested in seeing how much beer and porn he could pack than actually teaching us anything useful. Not sure what happened with the one before him, but I found out that none of my stuff (merit badges, advancement, etc) had been turned into the council when I volunteered to work with some cub scouts a few years after our troop dissolved.

As I said, I'd like to think it can work, but then again my budget works on paper......
