Yes, oysters. This fall has been great for them out here, but this is just amazing. Probably elm, but not sure, and yes, it's been dead a few years. The top has bracket fungusus on it, and the bottom 16" diameter trunk has these oysters all over it. The back side looks just about as full! I was mowi...

From what I remember, it's a late fall through early spring season, and dry all summer. Collecting is a yearly cycle, not a fast endeavor.
