Re: Works good on a suunny day

Solar is one of my favorite ways to start fires! Try the inside pith of a golden rod, its my favorite way to go from solar to flame.

Re: Truck EDC

All I've carried for decades is a tire inflation pump and a set of jumper cables, which I end up using more for other folks than for me. A good FAK, a jug of water, and a brew kit for the people.

I'm not going off road, or into the bush for months, just running around between cities.

Re: Sam Houston NF

Mmmm, yeah, sounds like a good way to keep the Houstonians out of the woods. Didn't we hear one thrashing around in the rain May 2019? I swear it shook my jungle bed!

Re: Army Corp of Engineers in Grapevine

I've heard of good reports from LBJ Grasslands, it's a National forest type place where dispersed camping is welcomed, along with fires and other fun activities.

For topo maps, I go to www.caltopo.com. You can print them, order them, and a whole lot of cool things with their maps. They also show multiple layers for a custom map.

As far as the land goes, I have no clue.

Re: Ratcliff

In this photo of Downtown Ratcliff from the 1920's, I see brick buildings, specifically the three, one is two stories. Where did they go? Certainly not along the road anymore, is there an old downtown Ratcliff I don't know about off to the side now? Or were they torn down for materials and moved alo...

Re: The Alone Series

Phillip was on Alone?!? I really enjoyed his friction fire class at the gathering, and would love to spend more time with him, just being people, not teaching. He used a spear pointed Opinel to make his fire board, ingenious I thought.
