Davy Crockett NF (Ratcliff Lake) Vacation. PIC HEAVY

Post by BigJesse » Sun Dec 11, 2016 3:59 pm

Just thought I'd show off our latest trip.

Thanks to everyone for all of the advice. Scott for convincing me to make it to the first gathering at Ratcliff which led me to want to come back. Jeffro for the dutch oven insights. DBX for always having a hot pot of coffee ready each morning inevitably making me get a peculator for this trip. Pointman for the tips on camping here during this holiday season.

Here are the pics:

Thanks Jeffro. I would say we managed to even avoid the rain but we all know how that goes when I'm camping. It did however only rain for a few minutes while we were breaking camp.

Yeah, I txt'd Friday, to see if you needed firewood.
You must not have had signal.
Was not sure if you were actually on site.
Turned out to be great weekend, a little chilly, but no real rain.

I got there around 2pm on Friday. I don't have service about half of that drive. A friend at work gave me about 1/3 of a cord of oak to take. Worked out to the the perfect amount even after making a mallet out of one. LOL
The weather was definitely chilly Friday night but with the heater, blankets and sleeping bags we managed. Even got too hot for us Saturday night. The slight sprinkle we had Sunday morning was nothing I couldn't handle and we were 90 percent packed and ready to leave at that point. Plus it only lasted 5 minutes or so. Rain is rain though, the curse continues. I think it may have just wasted it's real strength on the weekend before. I managed to trick it. I'll take it as a win though.
