Not a bow hunter, but oldest son and I are headed to Colorado for second rifle season, elk, come the middle of October.

Nice! I've never had elk other than jerky. Is it about the same as deer?

I used to when I was younger. Just recently picked up a Golden Eagle on the cheap and plan to get back to it for next year's season. You know, practice, practice. Plus need to find a place to hunt.

Nice elk! Have had it a few times. Love it!

Still bow hunting hard every year. Stands are hung, broadheads sharpened and the bow is tuned. Just waiting for opener now. Hunting near Fredericksburg. The whitetails are on the small side but there are plenty of them..... Of course...the herd of ferrel axis deer that run through the same area is quite the attraction.
Did my first Elk hunt last year in Idaho but didn't connect. Got within 60 of a nice bull but my arrow would have had to pass through a tree branch to get to him so I never got the shot. Still one of the best times hunting that I've ever had.

Right on, I've got one setup complete, need get off my butt and finish the other one. I'm hunting in Coryell county this year. I've gor a buddy out in Lampasas County that's got a few free range Axis, just don't see them when I'm hunting.

CanisKil, good luck with the search for a hunting spot, It's getting pretty difficult to find a spot.
