TOPO Maps from USGS

I have used this link to download and print scale maps for use in land nav. The maps can be down loaded in 1:50000 and 1:24000 scale pdf files. With the printers that I have available to me I print them at 1:1 (100%) and they come out to scale. They are formatted so that if you have your printer tile the print it will show cut lines where each page can be cut to fit the next page for creating larger maps.

I also ordered several of these map tools from Survival Resources. The Pocket Sized UTM Corner Rulers.

Any way, these items combined with a decent compass will get you to just about anywhere you want to go.

Thanks for looking.

This is great! I can normally get maps from the local Topo guys on post, but not all the time.
Your not prepared if you can't remember what your carrying and where it is.

I used to purchase my topo maps from USGS. Now I order custom maps from MyTopo through this website...www.maptools.com

You can also purchase map tools from this site.

I order custom maps because I can have them printed to my specifications on waterproof paper. I have them printed with UTM grids and GPS tick marks. I find it easier plotting with UTM grids, and since I use a clicker/counter to count off my steps, the UTM grids make it much too simple to figure out how far I must travel to get to a select spot.

Plus, I am too lazy to print my own. :D

The great state of Texas has an incredible supply of publicly available geographic data. Check out http://tnris.org/data-download/#/statewide for a searchable database of aerial photos, Topo( digital raster graphics) and much more. The topo maps come in collared form for printing with full legends and markings. Good stuff and free too.
