Let's see your cookin irons

Post by real_steel » Tue Apr 15, 2014 7:53 pm

In honor of the upcoming San Saba hang I thought I would inspire everyone to dust off their cast iron cook ware and scrape off the soured lard. I don't have a big Dutch cause I'm usually just cooking for a couple of people. Feel free to show us what you can do with them as well. (No cobblers. I'm hungry enough as it is!)

Just cook for me, mostly. No good cast iron in the field kit.

But, Shnick and Longbowman should chime in here. Between the two of them, they probably have enough to ballast a small ship.

I'm not a fan of cast iron in the field due to the weight. While I've never owned a dutch oven, when it's time to cook at home, the old iron Lodge skillet comes out of the cabinet and gets a proper workout. I can't tell you how old it is but I've probably had it for more than 40 years. She's seen everything from fried squirrel, rabbit, deer, cornbread, fried chicken, and a ton of taters and onions. Did I mention bacon, sausage, fried eggs and lots and lots of gravy? Darn, just made myself hungry....see ya.....

Darrell you know I am going to move in by you and Scott. I will set up a kitchen there and you are welcome at my table. I'll start working on the menu any requests?
