comparing an MRE to Mountain House

Penny stove, hobo stove, canteen cup. What do you use to disinfect water and cook food? Discuss.

comparing an MRE to Mountain House

Here is a video where we break down an MRE and compare it to a Mountain House

"Well, crap I left it in the other pack." Words of a bushcraft gear junkie.

No real comparison. Mre's are awesome for what they. Lived off of them for weeks at a time and I love them lol. To bad I have to pay for them now a days :)

The trick to MREs has always been trading off what you don't want for what you do. I know the MRE quite well, lol. And, for the record, the meatball marinara is in no way an indication of how good they can be. I was always partial to the Southwest Beef and Blackbean.

After about the sixth day of MRE intake, your body requires poop lube. :)
As Les Stroud said at the end of SurvivorMan Season 7 Episode 3, "You have to push hard through the heavy bush." :)

@seabass trading was half the fun of mre's
@ clovis I would say that was half the fun but it was not. However if one saved up enough of the coffee packs and drank them all at once lol.

My personal favorite was the cheese packs.

I love MRE's. They are pretty much my go to meal for the woods. Now a properly cooked mountain house isn't bad, but for the value I'm picking the MRE. I guess the only one I was never a fan of was the 5 fingers of death. I always felt cheated with them.
