Sleeping Bag Liner

Post by BigJesse »

Wanted a sleeping bag liner. So I made one.

All the quality ones online are $50 or so. I didn't want to pay that much for one plus they all have zippers and are the style of a traditional sleeping bag. I don't use a traditional sleeping bag in the winter, instead I use a top quilt. And in the summer I use my sleeping bag just laid on top of me. I use pads or other sorts of insulation under me to take care of the rest.

This is just some lightweight flannel I found at Hobby Lobby today. 15 bucks worth of material and I was able to make exactly what I wanted.

I really didn't do any sort of measuring before hand, just kinda winged it from what I had.

I used my Hammock Gear top quilt as a "pattern". I just laid it out and got the dimensions that I needed. Pretty straight forward.
I cut the fabric in half length wise and sewed it on to itself making it longer, making sure that the top half was slightly longer that the bottom half so I could taper it to the mid point.
After that I did a simple hem on all the edges, making the bottom hem a little wider to accommodate some paracord so I could make it cinch closed.
Then I sewed up the foot box up to about 24" or so and I was done.

The foot box is 24" wide, 59" at the shoulders, about 7' long and weighs 18oz. I'm really happy with it. It'll keep my bags cleaner and add a 5-10° to whatever I'm using.

Sorry for the garbage pictures.

Nice! Been thinking of making one that will fit my big fat behind. I like the idea of being able to keep my bag clean and be able to toss it in the wash at home.

Thanks everyone. I'm hoping it'll be a good summer bag too.
