Hawaii: Kīlauea Iki Crater hike

Post by Bill » Thu Aug 15, 2013 5:29 pm

So my wife and I did some hiking in the Volcano National Park and did the Kīlauea Iki trail plus a little more it was about 7 miles in total. Here are some pics from inside the crater.

It was raining but the haze in the images is mostly from the gasses coming from the crater we were hiking on. The last eruption was in 1960 at which point the place we were standing on was a lava lake. For more information on the last eruption check out this link http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/1962BVol...24..249M
