Attachment on yo yo fishing reel?
Hi,
I'm a newbie when it comes to fishing. Can someone tell me what items do I need to attach to the reel in order to catch fish?
I hope you can help me?
Cheers, Foreign to Texas
PS: I'm sorry for my English being so terrible. I was born in Europe.

Re: Attachment on yo yo fishing reel?
Welcome to the forum and Texas!
Unfortunately YoYo fishing is illegal in Texas.
https://tpwd.texas.gov/faq/fishboat/fis ... %20allowed.
But for a survival situation anything is fair game IMO. But I've never used them so don't have much info on them.

I've used them in Louisiana, you attach a hook to the end, pull it out, bait it, and wait for a strike. Usually turtles or catfish.

Hi YoungBlacksmith,
Thanks a lot for your response!
What's the size of the hook and thickness of your fishing line?
How long is your attachment (fishing line + hook)?
Did you put any weights on it? If yes, how much?
The fishing line I bought:
Berkley Trilene Big Game Clear 0,60mm 25 kg (55, 11lbs)
https://www.berkley-fishing.com/product ... me-1285546
Hooks: (see image file)

May I see a set up of your yoyo fishing with line, hook etc?

Re: Attachment on yo yo fishing reel?
My yo-yo's were already strung with the smallest bank line, so all I had to do was attach about a foot leader of line with the fairly decent hook, Catfish bait it, and go.
I did attach a sinker/weight about 6" above the hook, so it would be sure to hit bottom and float around. I was wanting catfish!

What do you mean by "about a foot leader of line with the fairly decent hook, Catfish bait it, and go."YoungBlacksmith wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 4:53 pmso all I had to do was attach about a foot leader of line with the fairly decent hook, Catfish bait it, and go.

How thick is your line? Hook size?
How much ounces is your weight ?

Re: Attachment on yo yo fishing reel?
I didn't put much thought into it, the yo-yo was pre-strung with the smallest bank line. So I pulled out a handfull, made a loop, attached a foot of whatever fish line I had attached to the large-ish hook I had pre-strung. Added 3 medium crimp-on weights. And some stinky catfish bait. Caught a turtle. Released it.
Please don't think I'm a fisherman, I just throw some $h!t in the water, and am pleasantly surprised when I catch something.
