Anvil Stand

Post by RMAR » Mon Sep 19, 2016 12:26 pm

I have been wanting to make an anvil stand for a while and I drew this up in Inventor. Made from treated 4x4's and 2x6's and is 19" tall, 17" long, and 13.5" wide. I needed this as small as possible to fit in the garage to take up as little floor space as possible. Since I need this mobile, I have an engine stand that I will re purpose the wheels off of and bolt them to the bottom. It will have a removable T-bar as well. I will post pics if I ever complete this. I have the material in the garage right now, but I need to find time to work on it.

The plan is to bolt everything together with all thread. I had 3 sticks on what I thought was 1/2" in the backyard. I went to lowes to get all the 1/2" nuts and washers to come home to what appears to be 5/8" all thread. Back to Lowes.

Isn't that how it is supposed to work.

I don't think that's how it is supposed to work, but that's how it works for me. You see I subscribe to DBX's 3Ps... "Piss Poor Performance", not Jeffro's 7Ps' "Proper Prior Planning PREVENTS Piss Poor Performance". If I had properly planned prior, I would have known my all thread was not 1/2". Every project is like that for me so its really nothing new.

Could d what I do.
I can never remember, so I buy a sized larger and a size smaller than I think it is. As well as the size I THINK it is.

Have lots of spare nuts and bolts.

Almost done. Just need to do a tool holder and work out the wheel system, but for now it's usable. I ditched the all thread idea for a much faster deck screw method. I found some 6 inch screws at a small hardware store close to the house. I had some leftover 2x6s so I made a recessed top.

Forged a tool rack with some scrap I had. The stand worked exactly as I hoped. I didn't get a chance to mount the rack, but it fits perfectly in the front of the stand. Forging stuff other than knifes is just as fun. Maybe even more because I don't have to worry about heat treat and temper.

I think I'm going to need a power hammer for that task.
