Welcome to the forum bud. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of info for you in regards to Van Horn.

Welcome arctic warrior! Van Horn is a long way from the arctic, but I'm sure there are ways to do what you want. Possibly look into rainwater catching? Build a shed or pole barn roof and collect off of that.

From what I remember, it's a late fall through early spring season, and dry all summer. Collecting is a yearly cycle, not a fast endeavor.

Welcome! There's a lot of folks that put a water well on their property. Ask around to the local drillers and they can probably tell you if that's a viable option or not. As for trespassers, Texas is pretty big on exercising their second amendment rights. A good fence with signs in English and Spanish might help. Again, I'd ask some of the property owners in the area and even the local police/sheriff department. They should be able to tell you if it's an issue in your area, and what works best in deterring trespassers.
